Dear Friend of Freedom,
Tell Speaker Perez to support the special session on the AI Bill of Rights.
Florida families deserve transparency, protection, and a voice when it comes to artificial intelligence in our children’s lives.
Recently, Governor DeSantis announced a special session where the AI bill of rights will be discussed. At a time when AI use is rapidly expanding in schools and homes, this is deeply concerning.
AI Bill of Rights would:
Give parents the authority to decide whether their child can use AI chatbots
Protect student data privacy from third-party AI vendors
Ensure stronger safeguards against inappropriate or harmful AI content
Right now in Florida, parents have no ability to restrict their child’s access to AI in and outside of schools — and no meaningful protections against expanded data collection by AI platforms. Unlike traditional school records, data collected by AI vendors is not protected in the same way.
The concerns are real — and they’re widespread:
70.9 percent of parents worry AI will create over-reliance on technology (Learner.com)
93 percent of parents are concerned about AI being used in classrooms (Norton, August 2024)
51 percent of parents fear their child may encounter inappropriate AI content (Norton)
1 in 3 children are choosing AI companions over humans for serious conversations (Common Sense Media)
The American Psychological Association reports adolescents are less likely than adults to question the accuracy or intent of information from AI bots
AI is advancing faster than policy. Parents deserve the right to guide their children’s exposure — not be sidelined while third-party technology companies shape their child’s worldview and collect sensitive data.
It’s time to act.
