Speaker Perez recently announced he does not support AI regulations which will protect children. Tell Speaker Perez to schedule HB 1395 in committee.

HB 1395 creates an AI Bill of Rights which will protect children from the negative impacts of AI. It will allow parents to decide if their child can use AI chatbots, and it will protect data privacy.

Currently, in Florida, parents do not have any ability to restrict their child's access to AI within a school setting or at home. AI has the potential to collect data well beyond what school districts can and do collect right now. This data collection by third-party vendors is not currently protected like other data the schools collect. In addition, AI has the potential to teach a worldview that doesn’t coincide with the views of all parent due to the open nature of AI.

An online survey conducted by Learner.com found that:

70.9 percent of parents are worried about AI creating over-reliance on technology.

An August 2024 survey conducted by the Cybersecurity company Norton:

93 percent of parents are concerned about AI being used in the classroom or at school.
51 percent of parents worry about their children coming across inappropriate content through AI.

According to Common Sense Media:

1 out of 3 children are choosing an AI companion over a human for serious conversations.

According to the APA:

Adolescents are less likely than adults to question the accuracy and intent of information offered by a bot as compared with a human.
