State Senator Dennis Baxley has filed Senate SB 1834, an excellent bill (similar House bill HB 1557 is progressing in the House chamber) that puts several key elements of accountability and enforcement into the Parents Rights bill which was passed and signed into law by Governor DeSantis last year. Specifically, SB 1834: -Prohibits a school district from adopting procedures or student support forms that require school district personnel to withhold from a parent specified information or that encourage or have the effect of encouraging a student to withhold from a parent such information. -Prohibits a school district from encouraging classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels. -Authorizes a parent to bring an action against a school district to obtain a declaratory judgment that a school district procedure or practice violates certain provisions of law and provides for the additional award of injunctive relief, damages, and reasonable attorney fees and court costs. ACTION SB 1834 is scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday February 8th at 9AM. Use this petition to contact all members of the Senate Education Committee and urge them to vote YES on this bill.
